Description
A smooth, sweet, and richly spiced spread made from fresh peaches. Perfect on toast, biscuits, or as a topping for pancakes and desserts.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 lbs ripe peaches, peeled, pitted, and chopped
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup apple juice or water
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp ground cloves (optional)
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Combine chopped peaches and apple juice (or water) in a large saucepan over medium heat.
- Cook for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until peaches are very soft.
- Use an immersion blender or transfer to a regular blender to purée until smooth.
- Return purée to the pan. Add sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, cloves, and salt. Stir well.
- Simmer over low heat, stirring often, for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until thickened to a buttery consistency.
- To test: spoon a bit on a plate — it should not run or separate.
- Ladle hot peach butter into sterilized jars, leaving 1/4-inch headspace. Seal and process in a water bath for 10 minutes if canning.
- Otherwise, let cool and refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.
Notes
- Peach butter can also be made in a slow cooker for easier simmering — cook on low for 6–8 hours uncovered.
- Taste your peaches first and adjust sugar as needed.
- Freezes well for up to 6 months in airtight containers.
