Description

Pecan Bars are a rich and buttery dessert with a caramelized pecan topping, perfect for holiday gatherings or as a special treat. With a crisp crust and a gooey pecan topping, these bars offer a delightful blend of textures and flavors.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Crust:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed

For the Pecan Topping:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 3 cups pecans, roughly chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang for easy removal, and lightly grease it.

2. Make the Crust:

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and salt.
  • Add the chilled, cubed butter. Use a pastry cutter or your hands to cut the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Press the crust mixture evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  • Bake the crust for 18-20 minutes, or until lightly golden. Remove from the oven and set aside.

3. Make the Pecan Topping:

  • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Stir in the brown sugar, honey, and heavy cream. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 3-5 minutes, stirring constantly.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and chopped pecans.

4. Assemble and Bake:

  • Pour the pecan mixture over the pre-baked crust and spread it out evenly.
  • Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until the topping is bubbly and golden.

5. Cool and Serve:

  • Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan. Once cooled, lift the bars out using the parchment overhang and cut into squares or bars.

Notes

  • Storage: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week. For longer storage, refrigerate or freeze.
  • Freezing: To freeze, wrap the bars in plastic wrap and place them in a freezer bag. Freeze for up to 3 months.
