Description

A simple and savory appetizer made with crispy puff pastry, creamy cream cheese, and sweet-and-spicy pepper jelly. These easy-to-make squares are perfect for parties, gatherings, or as a delicious snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 8 oz (225g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup (60g) sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chives, chopped (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup (120g) pepper jelly (red or green, depending on preference)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. Unroll the puff pastry sheet onto a clean surface. Cut the pastry into 9 equal squares (3×3 grid).
  3. In a medium bowl, combine cream cheese, sour cream, chopped chives (if using), garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until smooth and well combined.
  4. Spread a small amount of the cream cheese mixture onto the center of each puff pastry square, leaving a small border around the edges.
  5. Place a spoonful of pepper jelly on top of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each square.
  6. Fold the edges of the puff pastry squares slightly over the filling, forming a small crust. Brush the edges of the pastry with the beaten egg to give it a golden finish.
  7. Place the pastry squares on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15–20 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and puffed up.
  8. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving, if desired.
  9. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a variation, try using a different type of jelly, such as raspberry or apricot, for a unique twist.
  • These can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator until ready to bake. Just brush with egg wash before baking.
  • If you prefer a spicier kick, add a few dashes of hot sauce or chili flakes to the cream cheese mixture.
