Description

Peppermint bark is a festive treat featuring layers of rich dark chocolate and creamy white chocolate, topped with crushed peppermint candies. It’s a classic holiday favorite that’s perfect for gifting or enjoying as a sweet treat.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Dark Chocolate Layer:

  • 12 oz semi-sweet or dark chocolate, chopped (or chocolate chips)
  • 1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract (optional)

For the White Chocolate Layer:

  • 12 oz white chocolate, chopped (or white chocolate chips)
  • 1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract (optional)

For the Topping:

  • 1/2 cup crushed peppermint candies or candy canes

Instructions

  • Prepare a Baking Sheet:
    • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  • Melt the Dark Chocolate:
    • In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the dark chocolate in 30-second increments, stirring in between, until smooth. Alternatively, melt using a double boiler.
    • Stir in 1/4 teaspoon of peppermint extract if using.
  • Create the Dark Chocolate Layer:
    • Pour the melted dark chocolate onto the prepared baking sheet and spread it evenly to about 1/4-inch thickness.
    • Chill in the fridge for 20 minutes to set.
  • Melt the White Chocolate:
    • Melt the white chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl or using a double boiler. Stir in the remaining 1/4 teaspoon of peppermint extract if using.
  • Add the White Chocolate Layer:
    • Remove the baking sheet with the dark chocolate from the fridge.
    • Pour the melted white chocolate over the dark chocolate layer and spread evenly.
    • Sprinkle the crushed peppermint candies or candy canes over the white chocolate.
  • Chill the Bark:
    • Refrigerate for about 30 minutes to allow the peppermint bark to fully set.
  • Break into Pieces:
    • Once set, break into pieces by hand or using a knife.

Notes

  • Peppermint Extract: Optional but enhances the peppermint flavor.
  • Chocolate Types: You can use any type of chocolate you prefer, such as milk or dark chocolate.
