Make pizza night even better with this perfect homemade pizza recipe! With a crispy, chewy crust and a delicious homemade sauce, this pizza is loaded with your favorite toppings and guaranteed to please.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough:

  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp garlic powder (optional, for extra flavor)

For the Sauce:

  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Toppings:

  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves (optional, for garnish)
  • Additional toppings of your choice (e.g., pepperoni, bell peppers, mushrooms, olives, onions, etc.)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, and garlic powder (if using). Add the yeast mixture and olive oil, and stir to combine. Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Shape the dough into a ball, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
  4. Prepare the Sauce: While the dough is rising, heat olive oil in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the tomato sauce, oregano, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes (if using). Season with salt and pepper, and simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and set aside.
  5. Assemble the Pizza: Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into two portions for two pizzas. Roll each portion into a thin circle or desired shape on a lightly floured surface.
  6. Place the dough onto a pizza stone or baking sheet. Spread the sauce evenly over the pizza dough, then top with mozzarella cheese and Parmesan cheese. Add your favorite toppings.
  7. Bake: Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
  8. Serve: Remove from the oven, garnish with fresh basil (if desired), slice, and enjoy!

Notes

  • For an extra crispy crust, preheat your pizza stone or baking sheet in the oven before placing the pizza on it.
  • You can freeze the pizza dough for later use—just wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and store it in an airtight container.
  • Adjust the toppings to your preference. You can also try using a blend of mozzarella, cheddar, and provolone for a richer cheese flavor.
