Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb minced meat (ground beef)
- 1 small yellow onion, cut into cubes
- 1 small green pepper, cut into cubes
- 8 ounces cremini mushrooms, diced
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 2 to 4 tablespoons A1 sauce (adjust based on desired flavor strength)
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon pepper
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 cup beef broth
- 8 oz provolone cheese (sliced)
- 6 hamburger buns (sesame seed bakery buns)
Instructions
- Cook the beef:
In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook, breaking it up into crumbles, until it is no longer pink. Drain the excess grease. - Sauté the vegetables:
Return the beef to the skillet and add the onions, green peppers, and mushrooms. Cook for 5 to 7 minutes, or until the onions have softened. - Make the sauce:
In a separate small bowl, combine the beef broth and cornstarch. Whisk until no lumps remain. Pour the mixture into the skillet with the meat and stir well. - Season and simmer:
Stir in the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, A1 sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix everything well and cook for about 5 minutes, until most of the liquid has been absorbed.Tip: A1 sauce has a strong flavor, so start with 2 tablespoons and adjust to your taste. Add more if you want a bolder flavor.
- Melt the cheese:
Turn off the heat. Place the slices of provolone cheese on top of the meat mixture and allow it to melt. - Assemble the Sloppy Joes:
Serve the cheesy beef mixture on sesame seed buns. - Serve:
Enjoy your Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes!
Notes
- The provolone cheese adds a creamy, melty texture that pairs perfectly with the savory beef mixture.
- You can adjust the amount of A1 sauce depending on how bold you want the flavor to be.
- If you prefer a spicier kick, you can add a dash of hot sauce or chili flakes.
