Description

These soft and fluffy plum dumplings filled with ricotta are the perfect combination of sweet and savory. A delicious, comforting dish that can be enjoyed as a main or dessert!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Dumplings:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 8 ripe plums, pitted

For the Coating:

  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • Ground cinnamon (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dumpling Dough:
In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, ricotta cheese, egg, vanilla extract, sugar, salt, melted butter, and milk. Stir until the mixture comes together into a dough. It should be soft and pliable, but not too sticky.
  2. Stuff the Plums:
Cut each plum in half and remove the pit. Fill the center of each plum with a spoonful of ricotta filling.
  3. Form the Dumplings:
Roll the dough into small balls, about the size of a golf ball. Flatten each ball slightly and place a stuffed plum in the center. Carefully fold the dough around the plum to seal it completely, forming a dumpling.
  4. Cook the Dumplings:
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Gently drop the dumplings into the boiling water, a few at a time, being careful not to overcrowd the pot. Cook for 10-12 minutes, or until the dumplings float to the top and are cooked through.
  5. Prepare the Coating:
While the dumplings are cooking, melt butter in a pan over medium heat. Add breadcrumbs and toast them until golden brown and crispy. Remove from heat and stir in sugar and cinnamon.
  6. Serve:
Once the dumplings are cooked, remove them from the water and roll them in the breadcrumb mixture until fully coated. Serve warm, with a sprinkle of extra sugar or cinnamon if desired.

Notes

  • If you want to make the dumplings ahead of time, you can prepare and freeze them before cooking. Just boil them directly from the freezer.
  • Feel free to adjust the sugar and cinnamon coating to your taste for a sweeter or spicier finish.
