Ingredients
Scale
- 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F/45°C)
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing)
Instructions
- Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- Mix the Dough: In a large bowl, mix 3 1/2 cups flour, salt, yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Stir until a dough forms, adding more flour if needed.
- Knead the Dough: Transfer dough to a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook.
- Let the Dough Rise: Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Shape the Rolls: Punch down dough, divide into 12-15 portions, shape into balls, and place in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish or on a baking sheet.
- Second Rise: Cover rolls and let rise for 30-45 minutes until puffed.
- Bake the Rolls: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush tops with melted butter and bake for 15-18 minutes until golden brown.
- Serve: Brush with additional melted butter if desired and serve warm.
Notes
- Ensure the milk is warm, not hot, to properly activate the yeast.
- Use a kitchen towel or plastic wrap to cover the dough while it rises to prevent it from drying out.
- Adjust flour amount as needed to achieve the right dough consistency.
