Description
A delicious fall-inspired pastry, combining the sweetness of pumpkin with a flaky, buttery twist. This pastry is perfect for breakfast, dessert, or as a festive treat during the autumn season.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 sheet puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)
- 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup cream cheese, softened
- 1 tablespoon butter, melted
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, combine the pumpkin puree, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and salt. Stir in the softened cream cheese until smooth and well combined.
- Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a floured surface. Spread the pumpkin mixture evenly over the center of the pastry, leaving about 1 inch on each side.
- Cut diagonal slits along both sides of the pastry, about 1 inch apart, leaving the middle section of the pastry intact.
- Carefully fold the pastry strips over the pumpkin mixture, alternating from one side to the other, creating a twist effect.
- Brush the top of the pastry with the melted butter and beat the egg to create an egg wash. Brush the egg wash over the entire pastry to give it a golden, shiny finish.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.
- Let the pastry cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar, if desired. Slice and serve warm.
Notes
- If you don’t have pumpkin puree, you can substitute with mashed cooked pumpkin or squash.
- For extra flavor, try adding a handful of chopped nuts like pecans or walnuts inside the twist with the pumpkin filling.
- This pastry is best served fresh but can be stored at room temperature for 1-2 days or refrigerated for up to 3 days.
