With just a few basic ingredients and minimal effort, you can have delicious, homemade breadsticks ready to serve with pasta, soups, or salads. The best part? They’re made on a single sheet pan, making cleanup a breeze.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 1/2 cups warm water (about 110°F or 45°C)
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon honey or sugar
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup olive oil (plus more for brushing)
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning (optional)
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for topping)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and honey. Stir gently and let sit for 5-10 minutes until the yeast is foamy and activated.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until the dough starts to come together.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes, or until it’s smooth and elastic. You can also use a stand mixer with a dough hook for this step, if you have one.
- Transfer the dough to a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes, or until it has doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly grease a baking sheet with olive oil.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto the prepared baking sheet. Use your fingers to spread and gently press the dough into a rectangular shape, covering most of the sheet pan.
- Brush the top of the dough with olive oil and sprinkle with garlic powder and Italian seasoning (if using). For extra flavor, sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese on top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the breadsticks are golden brown and cooked through.
- Remove from the oven, cut into strips, and serve warm. Enjoy with marinara sauce or your favorite dipping sauce!
Notes
- If you prefer a softer texture, cover the breadsticks with foil during the last 5 minutes of baking.
- For a sweeter twist, you can drizzle a bit of honey or olive oil on the breadsticks right after baking.
- These breadsticks are best served warm, but you can store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
- Feel free to add other seasonings like rosemary, thyme, or onion powder for a more customized flavor.
