Description
Saffron rice is a fragrant and colorful dish made with basmati rice, infused with aromatic saffron threads, perfect as a side for grilled meats, stews, or curries.

- 1 1/2 cups basmati rice (or long-grain white rice)
- 3 cups water (or chicken/vegetable broth)
- 1/4 teaspoon saffron threads
- 2 tablespoons hot water (for steeping the saffron)
- 2 tablespoons butter or olive oil
- 1 small onion (finely chopped, optional)
- 1 cinnamon stick (optional)
- 4 green cardamom pods (optional)
- 2 cloves (optional)
- Salt (to taste)
- Fresh parsley or cilantro (chopped, for garnish)
Instructions
- Steep the saffron in hot water for 5-10 minutes.
- Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
- Sauté onion (if using) in butter or olive oil, adding spices if desired.
- Add rinsed rice to the pot and lightly toast.
- Pour in water/broth and add salt; bring to a boil.
- Stir in saffron with its liquid, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes.
- Fluff the rice and garnish before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, replace water with broth.
- Dried fruits and nuts can be added for extra texture and taste.
