Description
Salsa Morita is a smoky, spicy Mexican salsa made from dried morita chiles, tomatoes, and garlic. Its smoky flavor gives it a unique twist compared to other salsas, making it perfect for pairing with tacos, grilled meats, or as a dip. Easy to make and packed with flavor, this salsa is a great addition to any Mexican meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 5 morita chiles
- 2 medium tomatoes
- 1/4 small onion
- 1 clove garlic
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1/2 tsp salt (or to taste)
- 1/4 cup water (or as needed)
Instructions
- Heat the morita chiles in a dry skillet over medium heat for about 1-2 minutes, just until they become aromatic. Be careful not to burn them.
- Remove the chiles from the skillet and remove the stems and seeds. Set aside.
- In the same skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the tomatoes, onion, and garlic. Cook until the tomatoes are softened and slightly charred, about 5-7 minutes.
- Once the tomatoes are charred, remove them from the heat and place them in a blender or food processor along with the roasted morita chiles.
- Add salt and water to the blender, and blend until smooth. Add more water if needed to reach your desired consistency.
- Taste and adjust salt if necessary. Serve with tacos, grilled meats, or as a dip with chips.
Notes
- If you prefer a milder salsa, you can remove some of the seeds from the morita chiles before roasting them.
- This salsa can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
- Feel free to add a squeeze of lime juice for an added burst of freshness.
