Description

  • This Sausage and Brussels Sprouts Casserole is a hearty, flavorful one-dish meal packed with savory sausage, roasted Brussels sprouts, and gooey cheese. It’s simple comfort food perfect for busy weeknights or cozy weekends.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb Italian sausage (mild or spicy), casing removed

  • 1 lb Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

  • 1/2 cup yellow onion, diced

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1/2 cup chicken broth

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream or half-and-half

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

  • 1/2 cup shredded Parmesan cheese

  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

  • Fresh thyme or parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

  2. Cook Sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned and fully cooked. Remove from skillet and set aside.

  3. Sauté Veggies: In the same skillet, add olive oil and sauté the onions and garlic until soft. Add Brussels sprouts, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Cook for 5–7 minutes until slightly browned.

  4. Deglaze: Pour in the chicken broth and cook for another 3–4 minutes, scraping the bottom of the pan.

  5. Combine & Assemble: Return sausage to the pan. Stir in cream and half of the cheeses. Transfer everything to the baking dish.

  6. Top & Bake: Sprinkle the remaining cheeses over the top. Bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes, or until golden and bubbly.

  7. Garnish & Serve: Let cool slightly. Garnish with fresh herbs and serve warm.

Notes

  • Make it Lighter: Use turkey or chicken sausage and swap heavy cream for Greek yogurt or milk.

  • Add More Veggies: Try adding mushrooms or spinach to the mix.

  • Spice it Up: Use spicy sausage and extra crushed red pepper flakes for a bold kick.
