Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb breakfast sausage (or Italian sausage)
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or a blend of your favorite cheeses)
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp baking powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven:
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal. - Cook the sausage:
In a skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat until browned and fully cooked, breaking it up into crumbles as it cooks. Once cooked, drain any excess fat and set the sausage aside to cool slightly. - Mix the dry ingredients:
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. - Prepare the wet ingredients:
In a separate bowl, beat the eggs. Add the milk and melted butter, and whisk until combined. - Combine the ingredients:
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix. Fold in the cooked sausage and shredded cheese, mixing gently to incorporate. - Transfer to the pan:
Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread it evenly. - Bake:
Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown on top and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely. - Serve:
Slice the sausage and cheese bread and serve warm or at room temperature. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
Notes
- You can use any kind of cheese you prefer, such as mozzarella, provolone, or Monterey Jack, for a different flavor.
- If you want to make this dish spicier, you can use spicy sausage or add a pinch of red pepper flakes.
- For an even richer flavor, try adding sautéed onions or bell peppers to the sausage mixture.
