Description

Gordon Ramsay’s Savory Caramelized Onion Dip is a creamy and indulgent dip made with deeply caramelized onions, rich cream cheese, and a hint of tang from sour cream. The layers of flavors in this dip are perfectly balanced, creating a savory and slightly sweet treat that’s perfect for your next gathering or casual snack. It’s a twist on the classic onion dip, with an elegant, restaurant-style touch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Fresh chives, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-low heat. Add the sliced onions, salt, and a pinch of sugar to help them caramelize.
  2. Cook the onions, stirring occasionally, for about 20-25 minutes until they are golden brown and deeply caramelized. If they start to stick to the pan, add a splash of water to deglaze the pan and prevent burning.
  3. Once the onions are beautifully caramelized, add the balsamic vinegar to the pan and cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the vinegar to reduce and add a deep flavor to the onions. Remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic powder. Stir well until smooth and creamy.
  5. Once the onions have cooled down, fold them into the cream cheese mixture, making sure the onions are evenly distributed throughout.
  6. Transfer the dip to a serving bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
  7. Before serving, garnish with freshly chopped chives for a fresh, vibrant touch.
  8. Serve with crispy chips, fresh vegetable sticks, or your favorite crackers and enjoy this deliciously creamy and savory caramelized onion dip!

Notes

  • If you want an extra savory kick, you can add a dash of hot sauce or a pinch of cayenne pepper to the dip.
  • For an even richer flavor, you can add a bit of grated Parmesan cheese to the cream cheese mixture.
  • Be patient when caramelizing the onions. It can take some time, but the flavor that develops is worth it!
  • This dip can be made a day in advance and stored in the fridge, which makes it a great option for parties or gatherings.
