Description
Gordon Ramsay’s Savory Caramelized Onion Dip is a creamy and indulgent dip made with deeply caramelized onions, rich cream cheese, and a hint of tang from sour cream. The layers of flavors in this dip are perfectly balanced, creating a savory and slightly sweet treat that’s perfect for your next gathering or casual snack. It’s a twist on the classic onion dip, with an elegant, restaurant-style touch.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Fresh chives, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-low heat. Add the sliced onions, salt, and a pinch of sugar to help them caramelize.
- Cook the onions, stirring occasionally, for about 20-25 minutes until they are golden brown and deeply caramelized. If they start to stick to the pan, add a splash of water to deglaze the pan and prevent burning.
- Once the onions are beautifully caramelized, add the balsamic vinegar to the pan and cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the vinegar to reduce and add a deep flavor to the onions. Remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic powder. Stir well until smooth and creamy.
- Once the onions have cooled down, fold them into the cream cheese mixture, making sure the onions are evenly distributed throughout.
- Transfer the dip to a serving bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
- Before serving, garnish with freshly chopped chives for a fresh, vibrant touch.
- Serve with crispy chips, fresh vegetable sticks, or your favorite crackers and enjoy this deliciously creamy and savory caramelized onion dip!
Notes
- If you want an extra savory kick, you can add a dash of hot sauce or a pinch of cayenne pepper to the dip.
- For an even richer flavor, you can add a bit of grated Parmesan cheese to the cream cheese mixture.
- Be patient when caramelizing the onions. It can take some time, but the flavor that develops is worth it!
- This dip can be made a day in advance and stored in the fridge, which makes it a great option for parties or gatherings.
