Description

These Banana Bread Cinnamon Rolls are a delicious blend of classic cinnamon rolls and banana bread. They feature a soft, buttery dough filled with a cinnamon-sugar mixture, topped with a creamy vanilla cream cheese icing. Perfect for breakfast or a sweet treat!

Ingredients

Scale

Dough:

  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup melted unsalted butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup mashed banana (23 medium bananas)

Filling:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Icing:

  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Prepare the Dough:
    • Mix warm milk, yeast, and granulated sugar in a small bowl. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
    • Add melted butter, eggs, salt, and mashed banana to the yeast mixture. Mix well.
    • Gradually add flour, stirring until combined. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
    • Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  • Prepare the Filling:
    • Mix softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a medium bowl. Stir in chopped walnuts if using.
  • Assemble the Rolls:
    • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a 20×14-inch rectangle.
    • Spread the cinnamon-sugar filling evenly over the dough. Sprinkle with walnuts if desired.
    • Roll the dough tightly into a log, then cut into 12 equal pieces.
    • Place rolls in a greased baking dish. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
  • Bake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  • Prepare the Icing:
    • Beat together softened cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
    • Spread the icing over the warm rolls once they are out of the oven.

Notes

  • Ensure the dough is well-kneaded for a fluffy texture.
  • If you prefer, you can freeze unbaked rolls and bake them fresh later. Thaw and let rise before baking.
