Description

Classic buttery shortbread cookies with a tender, crumbly texture — perfect for tea time or festive occasions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add vanilla extract and mix well.
  4. Gradually add flour and salt, mixing until the dough comes together.
  5. Turn dough onto a floured surface and roll out to about 1/2-inch thickness.
  6. Cut into desired shapes using cookie cutters or slice into rectangles.
  7. Place cookies on the prepared baking sheet and prick with a fork to prevent puffing.
  8. Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden.
  9. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use European-style butter.
