Description

Sizzling Garlic Chicken Stir-Fry with Peppers & Steamed Rice is a savory and aromatic dish that features tender chicken breast stir-fried with colorful bell peppers, onions, and a rich garlic sauce. Served on a sizzling platter with steamed rice, this dish is perfect for a quick, healthy weeknight dinner or a special meal. The combination of flavors and textures makes it a family favorite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breast, sliced into thin strips
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 yellow bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for stir-frying)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening sauce)
  • Steamed white rice, for serving
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish (optional)
  • Fresh cilantro, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the sliced chicken strips and cook for 5-7 minutes, until the chicken is browned and cooked through. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set it aside.
  2. In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of oil. Add the sliced bell peppers and onion, and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes, until they are tender-crisp.
  3. Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for another 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, sugar, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Pour the sauce over the vegetables and bring it to a simmer.
  5. If you want to thicken the sauce, mix the cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of water to form a slurry, then add it to the skillet. Stir to combine and simmer for another 1-2 minutes, until the sauce thickens.
  6. Return the cooked chicken to the skillet and toss everything together until the chicken is coated with the sauce and vegetables are evenly distributed.
  7. Serve the stir-fry over steamed white rice and garnish with sesame seeds and fresh cilantro, if desired.
  8. Serve immediately while sizzling and hot!

Notes

  • You can add other vegetables like snap peas, carrots, or mushrooms to the stir-fry for more variety.
  • If you prefer a gluten-free version, use tamari or a gluten-free soy sauce substitute.
  • This dish can also be made with shrimp, beef, or tofu instead of chicken for a different protein option.
  • For extra flavor, drizzle a little extra sesame oil over the dish before serving.
