Description

These crispy, cheesy fritters made with smoked Gouda are golden on the outside and creamy inside, perfectly complemented by a tangy balsamic honey mustard dipping sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup grated smoked Gouda cheese
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying
  • For the dipping sauce:
  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tbsp mayonnaise (optional for creaminess)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together Gouda, flour, Parmesan, baking powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  2. Whisk together milk and egg, then stir into the dry mixture until a thick batter forms.
  3. Heat about 2 inches of oil in a deep skillet to 350°F (175°C).
  4. Drop heaping tablespoons of batter into the hot oil and fry 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  6. For the sauce, whisk together Dijon mustard, honey, balsamic vinegar, and mayonnaise (if using) in a small bowl.
  7. Serve fritters hot with dipping sauce on the side.

Notes

  • Use a mild smoked Gouda to keep the flavor balanced.
  • Make smaller fritters for party appetizers or tapas-style dishes.
  • The sauce can be made ahead and refrigerated.
