Description
These crispy, cheesy fritters made with smoked Gouda are golden on the outside and creamy inside, perfectly complemented by a tangy balsamic honey mustard dipping sauce.

- 1 cup grated smoked Gouda cheese
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp smoked paprika
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Oil for frying
- For the dipping sauce:
- 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1 tsp balsamic vinegar
- 1 tbsp mayonnaise (optional for creaminess)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together Gouda, flour, Parmesan, baking powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Whisk together milk and egg, then stir into the dry mixture until a thick batter forms.
- Heat about 2 inches of oil in a deep skillet to 350°F (175°C).
- Drop heaping tablespoons of batter into the hot oil and fry 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- For the sauce, whisk together Dijon mustard, honey, balsamic vinegar, and mayonnaise (if using) in a small bowl.
- Serve fritters hot with dipping sauce on the side.
Notes
- Use a mild smoked Gouda to keep the flavor balanced.
- Make smaller fritters for party appetizers or tapas-style dishes.
- The sauce can be made ahead and refrigerated.
