Ingredients

Scale

For the Banana Bread

  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

For the Topping

  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  • Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix the mashed bananas with the melted butter. Stir in the vanilla extract and the egg.
  • Add Sugars and Dry Ingredients: Mix in the granulated sugar and brown sugar. Then, add the baking soda, salt, cream of tartar, and cinnamon. Stir until combined.
  • Add Flour: Gently fold in the flour until just incorporated. Avoid overmixing to keep the bread tender.
  • Prepare Topping: In a small bowl, mix the sugar and cinnamon for the topping.
  • Assemble in Pan: Pour half of the banana bread batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon sugar mixture over it. Add the remaining batter on top and sprinkle the rest of the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  • Bake: Bake for 55-65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Cool: Allow the bread to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For best results, use very ripe bananas as they add natural sweetness.
  • Avoid overmixing the batter to keep the bread light and moist.
