Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1 cup hot water
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional, for extra richness)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a medium mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Stir well to combine.
- Add the vanilla extract, milk, and melted butter to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
- Pour the batter into a greased 9×9-inch baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- In a separate bowl, mix the hot water and brown sugar. Pour this mixture over the batter (do not stir). The liquid will create the sauce that forms during baking.
- Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the top of the batter if using.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is set and the edges are lightly golden, but the center is still slightly gooey.
- Let the cobbler cool for a few minutes before serving.
- Serve warm, topped with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, if desired.
Notes
- This dessert is best served warm and pairs beautifully with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
- If you want an extra chocolatey experience, increase the amount of cocoa powder or add more chocolate chips.
- You can also add a pinch of cinnamon or a splash of coffee to enhance the chocolate flavor.
- Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days, and can be reheated in the microwave.
