Description

A vibrant and flavorful soup featuring tender fish, a spicy kick, and a tangy lemon finish. This light yet hearty soup is perfect for seafood lovers and anyone looking for a flavorful and aromatic dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb white fish fillets (such as cod, tilapia, or snapper), cut into chunks
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch piece fresh ginger, minced
  • 12 fresh red chilies, sliced (adjust to spice preference)
  • 4 cups fish stock or vegetable broth
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice (or more, to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder (optional, for extra heat)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh cilantro or parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Lemon slices (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Sauté Aromatics
Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the diced onion, garlic, and minced ginger, and sauté until softened and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes. Add the fresh chilies and cook for another minute.

  2. Add Liquids and Seasoning
Pour in the fish stock or vegetable broth and coconut milk. Stir in the fish sauce, lemon juice, turmeric, chili powder (if using), and season with salt and pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 5-10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

  3. Cook the Fish
Add the fish fillets to the soup and cook for 5-7 minutes, until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.

  4. Taste and Adjust
Taste the soup and adjust the seasoning, adding more lemon juice or salt if needed for balance.

  5. Serve and Garnish
Ladle the soup into bowls and garnish with fresh cilantro or parsley, and optional lemon slices for extra flavor. Serve hot.

Notes

  • For an extra spicy kick, you can add a bit of hot sauce or extra chili powder.
  • You can use any white fish you prefer, such as haddock or bass.
  • To make it heartier, you can add some cooked noodles or rice.
  • If you prefer a thicker soup, you can blend a portion of the soup for a creamy texture.
