- 1 box chocolate cake mix (plus ingredients to prepare the mix)
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 12 chocolate sugar cones
- 1 cup black decorating sugar
- Assorted Halloween sprinkles
Instructions
- Preheat your oven according to the chocolate cake mix package instructions. Line a muffin tin with cupcake liners and fill each liner with the prepared batter.
- Bake the cupcakes according to the package instructions. Allow them to cool completely on a wire rack.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, cocoa powder, milk, and vanilla extract. Beat until the frosting is smooth and fluffy.
- Frost each cooled cupcake with the chocolate frosting.
- Dip the open end of each chocolate sugar cone into the black decorating sugar, coating the edge. Place the cone, open-end down, on top of each frosted cupcake to form the witch hat.
- Decorate the base of each cone with assorted Halloween sprinkles to create a festive hatband.
- Serve immediately or store in an airtight container until ready to serve.
