Description

These delightful Star Cookies are buttery, soft, and perfect for decorating! With a simple dough that holds its shape during baking, they’re ideal for holiday cookies or any occasion. You can decorate them with colorful icing, sprinkles, or keep them simple with a dusting of powdered sugar!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Optional: 1 tbsp milk (if the dough is too stiff)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
    • In a separate large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together with a hand mixer until light and fluffy.
    • Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and mix until combined.
    • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. If the dough is too stiff, add a tablespoon of milk to make it more workable.
    • Once combined, wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or until firm.
  2. Roll and Cut the Dough:
    • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
    • Lightly flour your surface and roll out the chilled dough to about ¼ inch thick.
    • Using a star-shaped cookie cutter, cut out as many cookies as you can from the dough. Place the cookies onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 1 inch apart.
  3. Bake the Cookies:
    • Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are slightly golden.
    • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  4. Decorate (Optional):
    • Once the cookies are fully cooled, you can decorate them with icing, sprinkles, or a simple dusting of powdered sugar for a festive look.
  5. Serve:
    • Enjoy your sweet, buttery star-shaped cookies as a treat for any occasion!

Notes

  • You can use colored icing and sprinkles to decorate the cookies to match a specific theme, like for Christmas, birthdays, or any special celebration.
  • These cookies store well in an airtight container for up to 1 week, so they’re great for gifting or making ahead.
