Description

Steak & Queso Rice is a bold, savory dish combining tender steak with creamy, cheesy rice. This easy-to-make meal is packed with flavor and perfect for a quick weeknight dinner or a hearty meal to share!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb steak (ribeye, sirloin, or flank), thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup rice (white or brown)
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup queso blanco or melted cheese of choice
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced steak and cook for 3–4 minutes until browned and cooked through. Remove steak from the skillet and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook for 2-3 minutes until softened.
  3. Add the rice to the skillet, stirring it in with the onion and garlic. Cook for 1-2 minutes, allowing the rice to lightly toast.
  4. Pour in the beef broth, cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine, then cover and reduce heat to low. Let the rice simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until fully cooked and tender.
  5. Once the rice is cooked, stir in the queso blanco (or melted cheese) and sour cream. Mix until creamy and well combined.
  6. Return the cooked steak to the skillet and stir everything together. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to heat through.
  7. Garnish with chopped cilantro (optional) and serve hot!

Notes

  • For extra spice, add jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce to the rice.
  • Feel free to swap the steak for ground beef or chicken if preferred.
  • This dish pairs wonderfully with a side of guacamole or a fresh salad.
