Description
These Steakhouse Burger Sloppy Joes combine rich steak sauce, Dijon mustard, and savory mushrooms for a gourmet twist on the classic sloppy joe. Perfect for a hearty dinner, this sandwich features a flavorful beef mixture topped with sharp cheddar cheese on a toasted bun.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup chicken broth (from a 32-oz carton)
- 2 tablespoons steak sauce
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 lb ground beef
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 8 oz mushrooms, thinly sliced
- 1 cup white onion, coarsely chopped (from 1 small onion)
- 1 teaspoon Montreal steak seasoning
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 8 regular-size burger buns, toasted if desired
- 1/2 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese (2 oz)
Instructions
- Prepare the Sauce: In a medium bowl, mix the chicken broth, steak sauce, and Dijon mustard. Set aside.
- Cook the Beef: In a 12-inch skillet, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat for 7 to 8 minutes, stirring frequently until browned. Drain any excess fat and set the beef aside.
- Cook the Vegetables: Add butter to any remaining drippings in the skillet. Add the sliced mushrooms, chopped onion, and Montreal steak seasoning. Cook for 7 to 8 minutes until the onions are translucent and the mushrooms are browned.
- Make the Roux: Sprinkle the flour over the vegetables and cook for 1 to 2 minutes until the flour browns and begins to smell nutty.
- Combine Beef and Broth: Return the beef to the pan and stir in the prepared broth mixture. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 3 to 4 minutes, or until the sauce thickens.
- Assemble the Sloppy Joes: Place about 1/3 cup of the beef mixture on the bottom half of each toasted burger bun. Top with 1 tablespoon of shredded sharp Cheddar cheese, then place the top bun over the cheese to complete the sandwich.
Notes
- For a more intense flavor, use a richer steak sauce or add a splash of Worcestershire sauce.
- If you prefer a thicker sauce, let it simmer a bit longer to reduce and thicken the broth.
- Feel free to add extra vegetables such as bell peppers or spinach for added flavor and nutrition.
- Toasting the buns adds extra texture and flavor, but it is optional.
