Description

These delightful Strawberry Puff Pastry Hearts are a perfect Valentine’s Day treat or a sweet addition to any special occasion. With layers of flaky puff pastry, sweet strawberry filling, and a dusting of powdered sugar, these heart-shaped pastries are as beautiful as they are delicious.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet of puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)
  • ½ cup strawberry jam or strawberry preserves
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface to smooth out any creases.
  3. Using a heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut out as many heart shapes as possible from the puff pastry. You should aim for about 8-10 hearts depending on the size.
  4. Place half of the heart-shaped pieces onto the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Spoon about 1 teaspoon of strawberry jam or preserves onto the center of each heart on the baking sheet, leaving a small border around the edges.
  6. Brush the edges of the pastry hearts with a little bit of water.
  7. Place the remaining heart-shaped pieces on top of each jam-covered heart, gently pressing around the edges to seal them together.
  8. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water to create an egg wash. Brush the top of each pastry heart with the egg wash to give them a golden finish.
  9. Bake the hearts in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed up.
  10. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly.
  11. Once cooled, dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute the strawberry jam with other fruit jams like raspberry, apricot, or blueberry if desired.
  • For extra decoration, you can drizzle a bit of chocolate or add a few sprinkles of cinnamon sugar on top before baking.
  • Serve these with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra special treat.
