Description

A fun, fruity twist on the classic puppy chow (also known as muddy buddies), this Strawberry Shortcake version combines crunchy Rice Chex cereal, creamy white chocolate, strawberry cake mix, and a dusting of powdered sugar. The addition of optional crushed freeze-dried strawberries elevates the flavor, making it a perfect sweet treat for parties, gatherings, or snacking at home!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 5 cups Rice Chex cereal
  • 1 1/2 cups strawberry cake mix
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups white chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup freeze-dried strawberries, crushed (optional)

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the Rice Chex cereal and set aside.
  • In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the white chocolate chips and butter in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Pour the melted chocolate mixture over the Rice Chex cereal and gently toss to coat the cereal evenly.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the strawberry cake mix and powdered sugar.
  • Transfer the coated cereal to a large resealable plastic bag, then add the cake mix and powdered sugar mixture. Seal the bag and shake until the cereal is fully coated.
  • Spread the coated cereal on a baking sheet to cool and harden. For an extra strawberry kick, sprinkle the crushed freeze-dried strawberries on top.
  • Once cooled, store in an airtight container and enjoy!

Notes

  • The freeze-dried strawberries are optional but add a nice extra strawberry flavor.
  • If you prefer a stronger chocolate coating, you can add more white chocolate chips.
