Description

This homemade strawberry syrup is perfect for drizzling over pancakes, waffles, ice cream, or adding to your favorite drinks. Made with fresh strawberries, it’s naturally sweet and packed with flavor!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 1 tsp lemon juice (optional, for added brightness)

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (optional, for extra flavor)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Strawberries: In a medium saucepan, combine the sliced strawberries, sugar, and water. Stir gently to combine.

  2. Cook the Mixture: Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring to a simmer. Stir occasionally and cook for about 10-12 minutes, or until the strawberries break down and the syrup thickens slightly.

  3. Mash the Strawberries: Using a potato masher or the back of a spoon, mash the strawberries to release more juice and create a thicker syrup. If you prefer a smoother syrup, you can use an immersion blender or regular blender to puree the mixture.

  4. Strain (Optional): For a smoother syrup, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve to remove the strawberry solids. Press with a spoon to extract as much syrup as possible.

  5. Add Flavor (Optional): Stir in the lemon juice and vanilla extract, if using, for added flavor.

  6. Cool and Store: Remove from heat and let the syrup cool to room temperature. Transfer to a jar or bottle and refrigerate. The syrup will thicken further as it cools.

Notes

  • If you like your syrup thinner, add a little more water while simmering.

  • For a thicker syrup, you can cook it for a few more minutes, allowing it to reduce further.

  • This syrup can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
