Ingredients
Scale
- 6 medium apples, washed and dried
- 6 wooden sticks
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup light corn syrup
- 1/2 cup water
- Red food coloring
- Green food coloring
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions
- Insert wooden sticks into the stem end of each apple.
- In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Cook over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves.
- Increase heat and boil without stirring until the mixture reaches 300°F (hard crack stage) on a candy thermometer.
- Remove from heat and divide candy syrup into two bowls.
- Add red food coloring to one bowl and green food coloring to the other, stirring each well.
- Dip each apple first into the red candy, letting excess drip off, then roll or drizzle green stripes over the candy coating.
- Place the coated apples on a greased baking sheet to cool and harden.
- Let apples cool completely before serving.
Notes
- Use fresh, firm apples for best results.
- Work quickly when dipping apples as the candy hardens fast.
- If the candy hardens before you finish, reheat gently until syrup is liquid again.
- Food coloring can be swapped for any colors you prefer.
