Description

This Sugar Cookie Icing is a quick and easy way to add a sweet, glossy finish to your cookies. With just a few simple ingredients, it’s perfect for decorating sugar cookies for any occasion. Customize with different colors and flavors to make your cookies stand out.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon light corn syrup
  • Food coloring (optional)

Instructions

Make the Icing:

  • In a medium bowl, combine 2 cups powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons whole milk, and 1 tablespoon light corn syrup. Whisk until smooth.
  • Check the consistency: Drizzle a bit of icing off the whisk or a spoon over the bowl. If it holds its shape for a few seconds before melting back in, it’s ready. If it’s too thick, whisk in an additional 1/2 teaspoon of milk at a time until you reach the right texture.

2. Color the Icing:

  • Divide the icing into separate bowls and add food coloring to each bowl as desired. Mix well.

3. Decorate:

  • Use the icing immediately, or cover the surface with plastic wrap to prevent drying out until you’re ready to use it.

4. Drying:

  • Allow the decorated cookies to dry overnight at room temperature.

Notes

  • Flavor Options: Add 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract or another flavor extract (like almond or lemon) for extra flavor. Some extracts may slightly tint the icing.
  • Make Ahead: Store the icing at room temperature in an airtight container, piping bag, or squeeze bottle, with plastic wrap pressed directly onto the surface of the icing. It’s best used within 1 day.
  • Storage: Store iced cookies at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 1 week. For longer storage, freeze iced cookies in an airtight freezer-safe container for up to 3 months.
