Description

Taco Casserole with Tortillas combines the flavors of classic tacos into a convenient and satisfying layered casserole. Ground beef is seasoned with taco spices, layered with tortillas and cheese, and baked until bubbly and golden.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 ½ tablespoons taco seasoning mix
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ cup salsa con queso
  • 3 8-inch flour tortillas or corn tortillas
  • 2 cups shredded Mexican cheese blend or cheddar cheese
  • Sour cream for serving

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Cook Beef: Heat some oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon.
  • Add Seasoning: Stir in taco seasoning and water. Simmer for 2-3 minutes until well combined.
  • Add Salsa: Mix in salsa con queso and remove from heat.
  • Prepare Baking Dish: Spray an 8-inch round baking tin with cooking spray.
  • Layer Casserole: Place one tortilla at the bottom of the baking tin. Spread ⅓ of the beef mixture over the tortilla, then top with ⅓ of the shredded cheese. Repeat layers twice more.
  • Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Cool and Serve: Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve with sour cream if desired.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add chopped jalapenos or a dash of hot sauce to the beef mixture.
  • You can use either flour or corn tortillas based on your preference.
