Ingredients
For the Filling:
-
1 lb ground beef (or turkey for a leaner option)
-
1 packet taco seasoning (or homemade taco seasoning)
-
1/2 cup water
-
1 can (4 oz) diced green chilies (optional for extra heat)
-
1 cup diced onion (optional)
-
1 cup black beans (drained and rinsed) or corn (optional)
For the Crust:
-
1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent dough (or pie crust if preferred)
For the Topping:
-
1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or a taco blend)
-
1/2 cup sour cream (for serving)
-
Salsa (for serving)
-
Chopped green onions (for garnish)
-
Chopped cilantro (for garnish)
Instructions
-
1. Preheat the Oven:
-
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease or lightly spray a 9-inch pie dish or an oven-safe baking dish.
2. Prepare the Filling:
-
In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat. Use a spatula to break it up into small crumbles as it cooks.
-
Drain any excess fat, if necessary, then stir in the taco seasoning and water (as per the seasoning packet instructions). Add the diced green chilies and black beans (or corn) if using, and let it simmer for 5-7 minutes until well combined and heated through.
3. Prepare the Crust:
-
Unroll the crescent dough and press it into the prepared pie dish to form a crust, pinching the seams together so it’s fully sealed. You can also use a traditional pie crust if preferred.
-
Bake the crust in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until it’s lightly golden.
4. Assemble the Taco Pie:
-
Once the crust is baked, spoon the taco filling evenly over the crust, spreading it out in an even layer.
-
Sprinkle the shredded cheese on top of the filling.
5. Bake the Taco Pie:
-
Return the assembled pie to the oven and bake for an additional 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the edges of the crust are golden brown.
6. Serve:
-
Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing.
-
Serve with sour cream, salsa, and a sprinkle of chopped green onions and cilantro on top.
