Description

A rich and decadent chocolate cake topped with a creamy, nutty icing – perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 5 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder (for the cake)
  • 6 tablespoons milk (for the cake)
  • 5 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder (for the icing)
  • ½ cup butter (for the icing)
  • 4 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts (Optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 10×15-inch pan.
  • Combine flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt. Beat in sour cream and eggs. Set aside.
  • In a saucepan, melt 1 cup butter on low, then add water and 5 tablespoons cocoa powder. Bring to a boil and remove from heat. Cool slightly and mix into the egg mixture until blended.
  • Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • For the icing: In a large saucepan, combine milk, 5 tablespoons cocoa powder, and ½ cup butter. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat.
  • Stir in confectioners’ sugar and vanilla. Fold in chopped walnuts and spread the icing over the warm cake.

Notes

Optional: Add chopped walnuts to the icing for extra texture.
