- 12 mozzarella cheese sticks (or string cheese)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tbsp water
- 2 cups Italian breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Marinara sauce for dipping
Instructions
- Unwrap and cut mozzarella sticks in half for shorter pieces (optional).
- Set up breading stations: place flour in one bowl, eggs and water in a second, and breadcrumbs, Parmesan, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper in a third.
- Dredge each cheese stick in flour, dip in egg wash, and then coat in breadcrumbs. Repeat for extra crunch.
- Arrange the breaded sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 1 hour.
- Heat oil to 350°F (175°C) and fry the mozzarella sticks in batches for 1-2 minutes until golden brown.
- Serve hot with marinara sauce.
Notes
- Freeze the sticks before frying to keep the cheese from leaking out.
- Double coat for an extra layer of crunch.
