Description

This tropical sweet and tangy sauce combines the vibrant flavors of pineapple, brown sugar, and a hint of spice, creating a versatile condiment perfect for grilled meats, seafood, and vegetables.


Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup diced pineapple (fresh or canned)
  • ¼ cup lightly packed brown sugar
  • 1 (6 oz.) can pineapple juice (about ¾ cup)
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon hot Hungarian paprika
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon table salt

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat.
  2. Add diced pineapple and cook, stirring occasionally, until golden brown and slightly charred, about 4–6 minutes.
  3. Stir in brown sugar and cook until bubbly and slightly reduced.
  4. Add pineapple juice, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, maple syrup, garlic powder, paprika, black pepper, and salt.
  5. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to maintain a low simmer.
  6. Cook until the sauce is slightly reduced and thickened, about 15–20 minutes.
  7. Remove from heat and let cool for at least 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For added heat, incorporate ¼ teaspoon of cayenne pepper.
  • This sauce is excellent on grilled chicken, ribs, seafood, or as a dipping sauce for appetizers.
  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
