Description

These Turmeric Shots are a quick and powerful way to boost your health with the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits of turmeric. Packed with fresh turmeric root, lemon, ginger, and black pepper, these shots are the perfect morning pick-me-up. With a dash of honey for sweetness and a bit of cayenne pepper for a kick, they’ll help energize you, boost your immune system, and improve digestion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon fresh turmeric root, grated (or 1 teaspoon turmeric powder)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger root, grated (or 1 teaspoon ginger powder)
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (to activate the turmeric)
  • 1/2 teaspoon honey or maple syrup (optional, for sweetness)
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)
  • 1/2 cup water (or coconut water for added electrolytes)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients:
    • Grate the fresh turmeric and ginger roots using a fine grater or microplane. If you are using powdered turmeric or ginger, you can skip this step.
  2. Juice the Lemon:
    • Squeeze the juice from half a lemon into a small bowl or jar.
  3. Combine All Ingredients:
    • In a small blender, food processor, or a jar, combine the grated turmeric, grated ginger, lemon juice, black pepper, honey (if using), and cayenne pepper (if using).
  4. Add Water:
    • Add the water (or coconut water) to the mixture. Blend or shake vigorously to combine all the ingredients. If you’re using a blender, blend for 15-20 seconds until smooth.
  5. Strain (optional):
    • If you want a smoother shot, strain the mixture using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth to remove any pulp. However, leaving the pulp in can give you extra fiber and nutrients.
  6. Serve:
    • Pour the turmeric shot into a small glass and enjoy immediately!

Notes

  • Storing: If you want to make a batch, store the shots in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Shake well before serving.
  • Caution with Turmeric: Turmeric can stain clothing and surfaces, so handle with care. It’s also recommended to wear gloves while grating fresh turmeric.
  • Adjusting Flavor: You can adjust the sweetness and spiciness according to your preference. Add more honey for sweetness or more cayenne for a spicier kick.
  • Optional Add-ins: You can add a pinch of cinnamon or a few drops of apple cider vinegar to further boost the health benefits.
