Ingredients
Scale
For the Scones:
- 2 cups All-Purpose Flour
- 1/4 cup Granulated Sugar
- 1 tbsp Baking Powder
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 6 tbsp Cold Unsalted Butter, cubed
- 2/3 cup Heavy Cream
- 1 Large Egg
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 1/2 cup Red or Pink Sprinkles (optional, for a festive touch)
For the Glaze:
- 1 cup Powdered Sugar
- 1–2 tbsp Milk (adjust for consistency)
- 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
- Red or Pink Food Coloring (optional, for a Valentine’s Day color)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven and Prepare the Baking Sheet:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
- Make the Scone Dough:
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients and use a pastry cutter, fork, or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. It’s important to keep the butter cold to achieve a flaky texture.
- Add Wet Ingredients:
- In a separate small bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, egg, and vanilla extract.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix the dough.
- Shape the Scones:
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times to bring it together.
- Roll the dough out to about 1-inch thickness. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter (or any other shape you prefer) to cut out the scones. Re-roll the dough if necessary to get as many scones as possible.
- Bake the Scones:
- Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet, making sure to leave a little space between them.
- If you’d like, you can sprinkle some red or pink sprinkles on top for a festive touch.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the scones are lightly golden on the edges and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Prepare the Glaze:
- While the scones are baking, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and food coloring (if using) in a small bowl. Adjust the consistency by adding more milk if needed.
- Glaze the Scones:
- Once the scones have cooled slightly, drizzle the glaze over the top of each scone. If desired, you can sprinkle additional red or pink sprinkles on top of the glaze.
- Serve and Enjoy:
- Allow the glaze to set for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy these heart-shaped scones with tea or coffee for a perfect Valentine’s treat!
Notes
- For extra flavor, you can add some chocolate chips or dried fruit (such as cranberries or cherries) to the dough before baking.
- If you prefer a thicker glaze, add more powdered sugar to achieve your desired consistency.
- These scones are best served fresh, but they can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
