For the Donut Cakes:
- 1 box strawberry cake mix
- 3 large eggs
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup milk
For the Glaze and Toppings:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2–3 tablespoons milk (adjust for desired consistency)
- A few drops of pink food coloring (optional)
- Assorted sprinkles
Instructions
- Prepare the Donut Batter: In a large mixing bowl, combine the strawberry cake mix, eggs, vegetable oil, and milk. Use a hand mixer or whisk to mix until the batter is smooth and lump-free.
- Fill the Donut Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a donut pan with non-stick spray or a thin coat of oil. Carefully spoon or pipe the batter into the prepared donut molds, filling each cavity about 2/3 full to allow room for rising.
- Bake the Donuts: Bake the donuts for 10-12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Remove the pan from the oven and let the donuts cool for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Make the Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons of milk. Add more milk, 1 teaspoon at a time, until the glaze is smooth and reaches your preferred consistency. Stir in a few drops of pink food coloring for an extra pop of color (optional).
- Glaze and Decorate: Dip the top of each cooled donut into the glaze, letting any excess drip back into the bowl. Immediately sprinkle with your favorite colorful sprinkles before the glaze sets.
Notes
- You can use any cake mix flavor for this recipe, but strawberry cake mix gives it a lovely pink color and flavor perfect for Valentine’s Day.
