Description

Waffles with Filling and Chocolate Glaze is a decadent breakfast or dessert treat that takes waffles to the next level. Light, crispy waffles are filled with your favorite sweet fillings, such as cream cheese, fruit, or Nutella, and topped with a rich, velvety chocolate glaze. Perfect for a special occasion or indulgent weekend breakfast!

Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Waffles:
    • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 2 tbsp sugar
    • 2 tsp baking powder
    • 1/2 tsp salt
    • 2 large eggs
    • 1 3/4 cups milk
    • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
    • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • For the Filling (choose one or mix):
    • 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened (for a cheesecake-like filling)
    • 1/4 cup powdered sugar (for sweetening cream cheese)
    • 1/4 cup Nutella or chocolate spread
    • 1/2 cup fresh berries (for a fruity filling)
    • 1/4 cup peanut butter (optional, for a peanut butter-chocolate twist)
  • For the Chocolate Glaze:
    • 1/2 cup heavy cream
    • 4 oz semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
    • 1 tbsp butter
    • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Make the Waffles:
    1. Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
    2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
    3. In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
    4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix; it’s okay if the batter is a little lumpy.
    5. Spray the waffle iron with non-stick spray, then pour about 1/2 cup of batter onto the hot iron (or as directed by the manufacturer for your waffle iron). Cook until golden brown and crispy, about 3-5 minutes, depending on your waffle iron.
    6. Repeat until all the waffles are cooked. Set aside and keep warm.
  2. Prepare the Filling:
    1. If using cream cheese, mix the softened cream cheese with powdered sugar until smooth and creamy.
    2. If using Nutella or peanut butter, simply stir to soften and make it easy to spread.
    3. If using fresh berries, lightly mash them with a fork to release some juices for a bit of a compote effect.
    4. Once the waffles are cooked, carefully cut them in half or leave them whole (depending on your preference). Fill the inside with your chosen filling and gently press the halves together.
  3. Make the Chocolate Glaze:
    1. In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it starts to simmer (not boil).
    2. Remove from the heat and add the chopped chocolate and butter. Stir until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth.
    3. Stir in the vanilla extract for flavor.
    4. Let the glaze cool slightly before pouring it over the stuffed waffles.
  4. Assemble the Waffles:
    1. Place the filled waffles on plates and drizzle the chocolate glaze generously over the top.
    2. Serve immediately, and enjoy with a dusting of powdered sugar, extra berries, or whipped cream if desired!

Notes

  • You can prepare the waffles and the filling ahead of time. Simply store the waffles in an airtight container and reheat them in the toaster or oven before assembling with the filling and glaze.
  • If you don’t have a waffle iron, you can also use a griddle or make pancake versions of this dish.
  • For a richer filling, add a tablespoon of heavy cream to the cream cheese mixture or mix in some mini chocolate chips for extra texture.
  • If you prefer a lighter glaze, reduce the amount of chocolate and butter, or use a drizzle of maple syrup instead.
  • Feel free to top the waffles with other toppings like whipped cream, crushed nuts, or a dusting of cocoa powder for extra flavor.
