Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups mixed nuts (such as almonds, cashews, pecans, or walnuts)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste for heat)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice (optional, for a zesty finish)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat for easy cleanup.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the mixed nuts with olive oil, stirring to coat them evenly.
- In a separate small bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, cinnamon, and cumin.
- Sprinkle the spice mixture over the nuts and toss until the nuts are evenly coated in the seasoning.
- Spread the nuts in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
- Roast the nuts in the oven for 15-20 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes to ensure they roast evenly and don’t burn. Keep a close eye on them, as nuts can burn quickly.
- Once the nuts are golden brown and fragrant, remove them from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes.
- If desired, drizzle with fresh lemon juice to add a zesty twist. Serve warm or at room temperature, and enjoy your fiery, dragon-inspired snack!
Notes
- Adjust the level of heat by increasing or decreasing the amount of cayenne pepper based on your spice tolerance.
- These nuts can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
- For a different flavor profile, try adding a pinch of smoked chipotle powder or a splash of hot sauce for an extra smoky, spicy kick.
- Feel free to customize the mix of nuts. Cashews, almonds, and pecans work especially well in this recipe.
