Indulge in this rich and creamy white hot chocolate, perfect for warming up on chilly days. Made with whole milk, real vanilla, and white chocolate, this delightful drink is sure to become a favorite. Top it off with whipped cream, mini marshmallows, or your favorite toppings for an extra treat!
Ingredients
For the White Hot Chocolate:
- 4 cups whole milk, divided
- 1 vanilla bean (or 2 tsp vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste)
- 1 pinch salt
- 4 tsp cornstarch
- 1 cup (6 oz) white chocolate chips or 6 oz white chocolate baking bars, finely chopped
Instructions
- Heat the Milk and Vanilla: In a medium saucepan, combine 3 1/2 cups of milk, the seeds of the vanilla bean, the vanilla bean pod (if using), and a pinch of salt. Heat over medium heat until it just begins to simmer.
- Prepare the Cornstarch Mixture: In a small bowl, whisk together the remaining 1/2 cup of milk and the cornstarch until smooth and well combined.
- Thicken the Mixture: Once the milk mixture begins to simmer, stir in the cornstarch mixture. Continue to simmer for 1 minute, whisking constantly, until the mixture thickens slightly. If the milk starts to bubble up vigorously, reduce the heat to maintain a light simmer.
- Add the White Chocolate: Remove the saucepan from heat and immediately add the white chocolate chips or chopped white chocolate. Whisk until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth. Remove the vanilla bean pod if used.
- Serve: Let the white hot chocolate cool slightly, then pour into mugs. Serve with your choice of toppings.
Notes
Topping Suggestions: Sweetened whipped cream, mini marshmallows, candy canes (for swirling), shaved white chocolate, a sprinkle of cinnamon or freshly grated nutmeg, salted caramel drizzle.
