Description

Yum Yum Sauce is a creamy, slightly sweet, and tangy sauce that’s the perfect complement to grilled meats, seafood, and veggies. Often served in Japanese steakhouses, it’s a versatile dipping sauce that pairs well with everything from shrimp to fried rice. Make it at home with just a few ingredients for a delicious addition to your meal!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar (or white vinegar)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional, for added flavor)
  • 12 teaspoons water (to thin, optional)

  • Pinch of salt (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Combine the Ingredients:
In a medium bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, ketchup, rice vinegar, sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika (if using).

  2. Adjust the Consistency:
If the sauce is too thick, add 1-2 teaspoons of water to reach your desired consistency. Stir until smooth and creamy.

  3. Taste and Adjust:
Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning as needed. Add more vinegar for extra tang, more sugar for sweetness, or more garlic powder for a bolder flavor.

  4. Refrigerate and Serve:
For the best flavor, refrigerate the sauce for at least 30 minutes before serving to let the flavors meld together. Serve with grilled shrimp, vegetables, rice, or use it as a dipping sauce for various appetizers.

Notes

  • You can use low-fat mayonnaise for a lighter version of Yum Yum Sauce, but the texture and flavor may slightly differ.
  • If you want to make this sauce spicier, add a dash of hot sauce or a pinch of cayenne pepper to taste.

  • Yum Yum Sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week.
