Description

This creamy and flavorful green bean casserole with cream cheese, cream of chicken soup, and crunchy French-fried onions is a perfect side dish for any occasion. It’s easy to prepare and a family favorite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 (11-ounce) cans green beans
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 1 cup French-fried onions
  • 1 (10.5-ounce) can cream of chicken soup
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 pinch garlic powder

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9-inch baking dish. Avoid using a larger dish to ensure the casserole stays thick and creamy.
  • Thoroughly drain the green beans to remove any excess liquid.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the green beans, softened cream cheese, cream of chicken soup, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir until evenly combined.
  • Fold in ½ cup of the French-fried onions to add texture throughout the casserole.
  • Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and loosely cover it with foil. Bake for 25 minutes.
  • After 25 minutes, remove the foil and stir to distribute the heat evenly.
  • Top the casserole with the remaining French-fried onions, spreading them evenly over the top.
  • Bake uncovered for another 20-30 minutes, until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
  • Allow the casserole to cool for at least 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a variation, you can add shredded cheddar cheese for extra flavor.
  • You can use fresh or frozen green beans as a substitute for canned.
  • If you prefer a healthier version, use a low-fat cream cheese and a reduced-sodium soup.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven.
